Botox

What is Botox? Botox is a cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, or Onobotulinumtoxin A, a neurotoxin that is used to “freeze” muscles. A Botox injection blocks every single nerve signal to the muscle, which means that it cannot contract. Since these contractions are responsible for highlighting and deepening existing wrinkles, Botox injections serve to give your face a smoother, younger appearance.

What can Botox be used for?

In addition to diminishing facial wrinkles, Botox can also be used for issues such as excessive sweating, migraines, eye twitching, jaw pain, and overactive neck muscles. Some people also get Botox injections to soften a square jawline, smooth a dimpled chin or correct an overly gummy smile.

What can you expect during the procedure?

How long the procedure takes will depend on the areas that are being treated as well as the volume of Botox being used. Because the needle used for treatment is so fine, no numbing or anesthesia is usually required.

Shannon – our licensed esthetician, will be able to pinpoint the precise points on your face that require an injection, so it can be a quick procedure that is virtually painless. If you’re nervous about experiencing pain or discomfort, be sure to tell Shannon so that she can apply a numbing agent if needed.

What can you expect during recovery?

There is no recovery time following a Botox treatment. You may feel residual soreness or swelling around the injected area immediately after treatment, but it is important not to rub or massage the area to prevent Botox from migrating.

Some people find it helpful to apply a cold compress or take an over-the-counter painkiller like Tylenol to reduce swelling and discomfort, but any discomfort typically subsides within 24 hours of treatment

What kind of results can you expect from Botox?

Results from a Botox session typically take up to 14 days to be fully noticed, but you may see results as early as three days after treatment. As Botox begins to freeze the treated areas, you’ll see lines soften and wrinkles diminish in appearance.

Depending on the severity of your wrinkles and the surface area that you want to be treated, you may need more than one Botox session to achieve the desired result.

Who should get Botox injections?

Here are four signs that you should get Botox:

  • You notice forehead furrows or frown lines. One of the first places wrinkles begin to crop up is on the forehead in the form of furrows or frown lines. Botox can definitely eliminate these unsightly wrinkles.
  • You’re forming smile lines. Smile lines, otherwise known as crow’s feet, respond very well to Botox. It temporarily relaxes the muscles that make crow’s feet disappear.
  • You’re an ex-smoker who has smoker’s lines. Smoker’s lines are vertical lines that appear above the mouth and result from years of puckering lips when smoking.
  • You want to prevent wrinkles from forming. When used early on in the aging process, Botox not only treats wrinkles but also prevents new wrinkles from forming. By combining a Botox regimen with good skincare, sunscreen, and a healthy lifestyle, you can prevent most wrinkles from getting worse and prevent new ones from forming.

While Botox is not a permanent solution, it is an excellent way to soften existing wrinkles and slow the formation of new ones. Read more details about Botox treatments offered by Artemis.

Fillers

Dermal fillers are a safe, reversible way to restore lost volume, smooth wrinkles, and enhance the contours of your face in a way that can look completely natural.

There are various dermal filler injection options, including biosynthetically produced calcium hydroxylapatite, which is found naturally in human bones; reformulated hyaluronic acid, which is also found in nature in the human body; and polylactic acid, which is a non-toxic, biodegradable substance.

Regardless of the type of dermal filler you opt for, these fillers have long safety records or have already been used in other medical or even dental treatments for some time now.

What kind of results can you expect from dermal fillers?

Most fillers last anywhere from six months to several years, depending on the type of filler and injection site. Shannon will be able to tell you how long your chosen filler should last. Results can be immediate. Some people may initially feel like the treatment areas are “overfilled”, but once the swelling subsides and the fillers settle, the end result can look more natural.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a quick, no-downtime procedure that renews the skin by lifting dead cells off the skin’s surface by means of gentle polishing with crystals. It has often been compared to sandblasting but on a very small and more refined scale.

In essence, a specialized skin “sandblasting” device that removes the layers of dead, dull, dehydrated skin cells instantly, allowing any treatments or product applications that follow the microdermabrasion treatment, to be so much more effective.

With a series of microdermabrasion procedures, you can quickly achieve substantial improvement in the appearance of superficial lines and uneven skin tone, while making your skin look and feel softer, smoother, and more radiant. Acne scars and enlarged pores may become less noticeable, and acne breakouts may be reduced.

Chemical peels

A chemical peel is a restorative cosmetic procedure that may help reduce the signs of aging on your face. During a chemical peel, Shannon will apply a chemical solution to your skin. This solution peels away damaged skin cells, allowing healthy skin to grow in its place.

This may help improve wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, acne, and uneven skin texture. However, the exact results will depend on many factors, including the severity of your skin issues and the type of peel you receive.
