Now that we’re into fall and winter is fast approaching, it’s important to protect your skin from the effects of cold and wind. This is especially the case for Coloradoans, who keep exploring and playing in the outdoors no matter what the weather is doing! To help you avoid some of the most common cold-weather skin issues like dryness and chapping, I’ve put together a short list of my top tips: Top Fall & Winter Skin Care Tips.
Read on to find out how to keep your skin soft and comfortable this season.
A big part of cool weather skincare is preventing dryness and irritation. We can approach the problem from the “inside out” and the “outside in.” One of the best “inside out” tips is to keep yourself hydrated. This means making sure to drink plenty of water and eat water-rich foods. Appropriate fluid intake can help reduce itchiness and keep skin plump, and it also makes it easier for our bodies to flush toxins and maintain overall health.
The “outside in” approach to skincare is using great skincare products. Of course, finding the right skincare products isn’t always easy. Cold-weather skincare recommendations typically direct people to “moisturize!” But, a moisturizer that works well for one person may not work as well for another. I can give you general suggestions like “keep applying products with SPF” or “apply moisturizer after your bath or shower,” but for personalized recommendations, I encourage you to come in for a free facial assessment. In person, we can determine your unique skin needs and I can tailor my suggestions just for you.
Artemis carries top skincare products from Eminence Organic Skincare and Senté that address hydration issues. These brands also carry products that are excellent for a daily skincare regimen. That will help correct specific problems like signs of aging, redness, breakouts and uneven skin tone (and more!).
One of the best things you can do to prevent flaky skin is exfoliate. Exfoliation removes dry, dead cells and keeps your skin fresh and smooth.
Don’t underestimate the wonderful effects of a great facial! Our Basic and Signature facials not only nourish your skin, they are a way to relax and pamper yourself. Our newest facial is the SkinWave Hydrofacial. This advanced treatment is great for cold weather skin care because of its gentle but intensive hydrating and moisturizing effects. It only takes 20-30 minutes, so you can pop in for a lunchtime spa break. When’s the last time you did something just for you?
Maintaining your best skin means adjusting your skincare routine with the seasons. What works best in summer won’t necessarily work as well during the winter! Often the best strategy is to consult with a skincare expert so that you better understand what works best for your unique skin type and needs. Please give us a call or use our online Patient Now Portal to get on my calendar for a free facial assessment. That’s the first step to beautiful, healthy skin, whatever the weather is doing outside.
